Playa Herradura (Herradura Beach) is a coastal town in the Central Pacific Region of Costa Rica. It is located about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi), north of Jacó in the province of Puntarenas. The name Herradura refers to the horseshoe shape of the bay. The town has developed into an important tourist destination in Costa Rica.
The lower part is called Punta Coyote and is made up of a shallow horseshoe-shaped sandy beach leading to the cliffy land-tongue. The upper part, also called Playa Costa de Oro, represents a long palm-covered beachfront that ends at Playa San Miguel. The 15 miles (24 km) at the coastline contains 31 separate beaches. The larger Elena Peninsula Santa to the north protects the waters in the Papagayo Peninsula.
