Patrick Wayne Swayze (/ ˈ s w eɪ z i / SWAY-zee; August 18, 1952 – September 14, 2009) was an American actor, dancer, and singer-songwriter known for playing distinctive lead roles, particularly romantic, tough, and comedic characters.
At age 14, at the Houston Ballet Dance Company, Niemi met the owner and director's son, Patrick Swayze; the two eventually got married when she was 19 years old. Niemi and Swayze were married on June 12, 1975, [16] [17] and remained married until Swayze's death from pancreatic cancer on September 14, 2009.
In the 1960s, Swayze founded and directed both the Houston Jazz Ballet Company, [1] and her own Houston dance studio, the Swayze School of Dance. [4] All five of her children became dancers and actors, [2] and Patsy's training has been credited for leading her son Patrick to his starring role in Dirty Dancing in 1987.
