The JU Center for Culture and Youth of the Center Municipality Sarajevo, commonly known as the Jelićeva Theatre, [2] established by the Center Municipality in 1965, [1] is an institution focused on enriching the lives of children, youth, and adults through a range of cultural and educational programs, with a particular emphasis on theatre and the performing arts.
The motive behind the project was the fact that none of the city's existing synagogues could hold more than a fifth of the total Jewish congregation. [4] A project board formed by the municipality and headed by notable Jewish industrialist, Avram Majer Altarac, purchased the land for 100,000 CHF, with construction beginning in 1926. [ 3 ]

The first edition of the festival was organized from 9 to 13 September 2008. Most of the events were of open-air type. Traditionally, Žuta tabija and the House of the Military in downtown Sarajevo were used as primary venues for the event. However, since OFF Sarajevo 2018, all of the events are held in Cinema City cinema near the ARIA Centar. [5]
The first was 27 November 1920, when in the city of Tuzla, the theatre presented Hasanaginica by Aleksa Šantić and Jedva steče zeta by Labiche and Michel at the Bristol Hotel. [4] The official inauguration, however, took place on October 22, 1921, marking the opening of its first season in the adapted building of the Social Hall in Sarajevo.
