Nepali Cinema, also referred to as "Nepali Chalachitra" (Nepali: नेपाली चलचित्र) is the filmmaking industry in Nepal. This includes films in various languages of Nepal, most notably in Nepali language but also in Newari , Maithili , Tamang , Bhojpuri and Tharu among others.
The first Nepali-language movie made in Nepal was Aama, which was released in 1964 produced by the Nepalese government. However, the first Nepali-language movie made by the Nepalese private sector was Maitighar, which starred Mala Sinha and was released in 1966. The first color Nepali-language movie was Kumari. QFX Cinemas is a cinema chain in Nepal with cinemas in the major cities of Nepal. [3] It was founded by Rajesh Siddhi, Bhaskar Dhungana and Nakim Uddin. [ 4 ] It features Nepali movies as well as Bollywood and Hollywood movies.
The story takes place in Mugu, a district in north-west Nepal in 2001 during the Nepalese civil war (1996–2006). It is the first Nepali film to be screened at the Venice Film Festival . [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It was selected as the Nepalese entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards but it was not nominated. [ 3 ]
