In October 2016, the USPHL announced it had applied to USA Hockey for approval to start a Tier II junior league for the 2017–18 season. The proposed Tier II USPHL division was announced to consist of 11 teams, seven from organizations in the USPHL Premier, the newly added Rochester Monarchs, and the Boston Bandits, New Jersey Rockets, and Northern Cyclones from the Eastern Hockey League. Founded in 2002, the Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League is a 12-team collegiate summer baseball league composed of teams located throughout New Jersey. [1] The league President is Mike Kolesar. The ABCCL aims to prepare collegiate baseball players for their spring seasons and to play professionally post-graduation.
The team was founded in 1994 as the Empire Soccer Club, and renamed to New York/New Jersey Metrostars in 1995 [19] and played under this name until the acquisition of the team by Red Bull GmbH in 2006, where the team was renamed to the New York Red Bulls and dropped their association with New Jersey in the team's name.
