Physalis longifolia, known by the common names common groundcherry, longleaf groundcherry, [1] and wild tomatillo, [2] is a species of flowering plant in the nightshade family, Solanaceae. It is native to North America, where it is native to eastern Canada, much of the continental United States, [ 1 ] and northern Mexico.
Physalis plants grow in most soil types and do very well in poor soils and in pots. They require moisture until fruiting. Plants are susceptible to many of the common tomato diseases and pests, and other pests such as aphids, whiteflies, spider mites, and the false potato beetle (Leptinotarsa juncta) also attack them. Propagation is by seed.
Physalis pruinosa is a plant in the genus Physalis in the nightshade family Solanaceae, often referred to as ground cherry or husk tomato. Physalis heterophylla is a perennial, and is one of the taller-growing North American members of the genus, reaching a height up to 50 cm. The leaves are alternate, with petioles up to 1.5 cm, ovate in shape, usually cordate at the base (this is especially true of mature leaves), 6–11 cm long at maturity.
The researchers introduced extracts from the plant to twelve different bacteria cultures. They found that extracts from the plant inhibited the growth of eight out of the twelve strains of bacteria. The identified the chemical compound in the plant that inhibits bacteria growth to be withanolide. The whole plant showed bacteria inhibiting ...
This is a list of crop plants pollinated by bees along with how much crop yield is improved by bee pollination. [1] Most of them are pollinated in whole or part by honey bees and by the crop's natural pollinators such as bumblebees, orchard bees, squash bees, and solitary bees. Where the same plants have non-bee pollinators such as birds or ...
Physalis walteri, commonly known as Walter's groundcherry or dune groundcherry, is a species of flowering plant. [3] [4] Its native distribution is Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Virginia in the United States as well as Northeast Mexico. [5] Its habitat is pinelands and open coastal areas. [2]
Prunus ilicifolia flowers. It is an evergreen shrub [4] or small tree approaching 15 metres (49 feet) in height, [12] with dense, hard leaves [4] (sclerophyllous foliage). The leaves are 1.6–12 centimetres (3 ⁄ 4 – 4 + 3 ⁄ 4 inches) long with a 4–25 millimetres (1 ⁄ 8 –1 in) petiole [12] and spiny margins, somewhat resembling those of the holly.
