On July 26, 1877, the first full-scale strike occurred in Bayonne at the Port Johnston Coal Docks when workers walked off the job. The Lehigh and Wilkesbarre Coal Company, who had bought the coal docks from the Central Railroad of New Jersey in 1876, had cut the wages of the workers in an effort to save money.
Rutowski Park is a municipal park and preserve in Bayonne, New Jersey. It is located at the northeastern end of the city near the mouth of the Hackensack River at Newark Bay south of New Jersey Route 440. [1] It is a component of the Hackensack RiverWalk and is connected by footpath to Stephen R. Gregg Park—Hudson County Park.

The park was developed as a Works Progress Administration project. [6]The park is named in dedication to G. Thomas DiDomenico, who was mayor of Bayonne from 1955–1959.. In 2022, a memorial bench to honor Jersey City Police detective Joseph A. Seals who lost his life in connection to the 2019 Jersey City shooting, was created.
