C. Wolverton, the primary researcher on the original NASA study, that listed additional plants and focused on the removal of specific chemicals.
The grass family includes most of the known C 4 species – around 5000. They are only found in subfamilies of the PACMAD clade. Major C 4 crops such as maize, sugarcane, sorghum and pearl millet belong in this family. The only known species with C 3, C 4 and intermediate variants, Alloteropsis semialata, is a grass.
