Ursuline Academy Ilford is a Roman Catholic secondary school and sixth form for girls in Ilford, London, England. [1] The school was established by the Ursulines as Ilford Ursuline High School in 1903. It converted to academy status in 2011 and is administered by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brentwood. [2]
The school's first science lab was in 1907. The nuns bought a semi-detached house and bought the rest the following year. This property is known as "Old House" by the school. The nuns who soon became eight [2] were inspired by the vision of their founder who became the school's namesake. In 1862 the school expanded to other buildings.
Initially, lessons on Friday finished after the fourth period at the school in order to encourage extracurricular activities; this practice of early finishes on Fridays remains the standard at the Ursuline High School, but was removed from the college in the 2000s. The academic term for senior high school students (Grades 11 and 12) operates on a semestral basis. Semestral, Christmas, and summer breaks are scheduled at about the same time as primary and junior high school. Grade 12 pupils have a shorter second semester than grade 11 in order for the school to prepare for graduation.
