A branch of Bonmarché on Broadway in Bradford (2009) A Bonmarché store in Hampshire. Bonmarché was founded in 1982, by Parkash Singh Chima. [citation needed] The Sikh businessman arrived in the United Kingdom in 1950, from the Punjab and settled in Ely, Cambridgeshire, from where he launched a door-to-door business selling clothing items.
The Bon Marché was founded in 1890 by Edward and Josephine Nordhoff, who had moved to Seattle from Chicago. Edward Nordhoff was a German immigrant who had worked for the Louvre Department Store in Paris, which competed with the Maison of Aristide Boucicaut "Au Bon Marché" (now part of the LVMH group).
The building served as The Bon Marché's flagship store and was later operated by Macy's. Macy's sold the upper 6 levels of the flagship store in 2015 to Starwood Capital. That portion of the building was remodeled into a 475,000-square-foot (44,100 m 2) office complex for Amazon. Macy's remained on the lower two floors and in the basement. [3]

Le Bon Marché (lit. "the good market", or "the good deal" in French; [lə bɔ̃ maʁʃe]) is a department store in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, France. Founded in 1838 and revamped almost completely by Aristide Boucicaut in 1852, it was one of the first modern department stores.
Even in its early days, Bon Marché billed itself as the largest department store in New England. Their Rock Bottom Basement Store featured an actual rock, a large glacial erratic which the basement was built around. The store was an anchor of Lowell's mercantile downtown. Its fortunes declined with the city as the mills closed.
