    Use a software such a Ogis2svg, and a PD shapefile. It's faster, requires no skill, and much more precise (it can be as precise as you like up to the precision of the original data recorded). This way you use the true power of SVG; tracing a raster image into an SVG path is pointless IMO, as you can only loose precision never gain any.
