The Moorabool River is a river in Victoria, Australia, which runs for 160 kilometres [1] through several small towns such as Meredith, Anakie, and Staughton Vale. It runs into the Barwon River at Fyansford. It is believed that the name Moorabool derives from an Aboriginal word meaning the cry of a curlew or a ghost. [2]

The Shire of Moorabool is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, located in the western part of the state. It covers an area of 2,111 square kilometres (815 sq mi) and, in June 2018, had a population of 34,158. [ 1 ]
Situated close by the Lerderderg River, at the 2016 census, Myrniong had a population of 404. [1] The town is in the eastern area of Shire of Moorabool local government area . Myrniong was named for the murrnong plant, the local indigenous word for yam daisy , a popular food source.
