(A working knowledge of Jewish wedding customs during Biblical times can also be helpful but is not essential.) The Wedding Planner. First-century Jewish wedding customs held that the father of the groom was in charge of the event and bore all the expenses associated with the wedding and the banquet that followed.
“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. “Later the others also came. ‘Sir! Sir!’ they said. ‘Open the door for us!’ “But he replied, ‘I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.’
Re: The parable of the 10 virgins. At the risk of beating an issue to death I have question about this parable. In reading different Bible translations for Matt. 25:10 sometimes marriage is used and others wedding banquet or wedding feast. I am a bit confused since going to the marriage is completely different than going to the feast.
It’s important to consider the context of a passage when doing your research, because many people don’t. In the case of this parable the Church is not a last minute guest at the Lord’s wedding. One problem is that talent is also an English word meaning a skill or ability. But in the Greek language a talent was a unit of measure, often defining an amount of money. Since everything in a parable is symbolic of something else, to think of the talents as symbolizing either skills or money is wrong, and really distorts the message of the ...
Although your conclusion is certainly valid, I think the Lord chose a female for this parable simply because women were the ones who prepared the bread. The phrase “3 measures of meal” traditionally referred to unleavened bread because when company came bread was needed quickly.
As usual, the landowner represents the Lord, the workers His followers, and the vineyard, His Kingdom. The pay stands for the rewards of salvation. The work is what His followers do to deserve the reward, and the day is the length of time they’re given to do it, normally their lifespan. This parable wasn’t meant to be a management seminar.
