On June 22, 2015, Thundercat released The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam EP, which was developed during the production of To Pimp a Butterfly. The EP includes tributes to his friend and collaborator Austin Peralta, a jazz pianist who was signed to Brainfeeder before his death in 2012.

It Is What It Is is the fourth studio album by American musician Thundercat, released through Brainfeeder on April 3, 2020. [8] It was preceded by five singles: "King of the Hill," which was released as a single from the label's compilation album Brainfeeder X in 2018, and "Black Qualls," "Dragonball Durag," "Fair Chance," and "Innerstellar Love," the latter four being released in 2020.
Drunk has been described as incorporating the stylistic influences of funk, hip hop, jazz, pop, psychedelia, punk rock, R&B, soft rock, and soul. [4] Multiple reviewers noted jazz fusion influences in the album, [6] [7] [8] and The Independent ' s Andy Gill wrote that the album "switch[es] abruptly between cool jazz, prog-fusion and sleek soul".
In an interview with Billboard, Thundercat stated that the EP had been conceived while making Flying Lotus' You're Dead!, Kamasi Washington's The Epic, and Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly, stating that the four had shared creative ideas for each of their projects. [12] The EP was revealed to be a prelude to Bruner's followup album, Drunk.
Austin Peralta was born on October 25, 1990, to filmmaker Joni Caldwell [5] and Z-Boys skateboarder and film director Stacy Peralta. [6] Peralta started playing piano at the age of five and was soon recognized as a prodigy.
