Govindas Vishnoodas Desani (1909–2000), known as G.V. Desani, was a British-Indian journalist, lecturer, writer and educator. [1] Desani is best known for his novel [2] All About H. Hatterr, first published in Great Britain in 1948, which cast an absurdist, comedic light on the plight of a common man in a multicultural, pan-ethnic world.
Bhagyashree married Himalaya Dasani on 19 January 1989. [21] [22] [23] They have two children, a son [24] and a daughter. [25] Her son, Abhimanyu Dasani, won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his performance in the 2019 film Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota. [26] Her daughter, Avantika Dassani, debuted with the web-series Mithya. [25]
Dassani was born on 21 February 1990 [3] [4] in Mumbai, to film actress Bhagyashree and her husband Himalaya Dassani. [5] His father, from a Marwadi business family, has himself been an actor and producer. [6] His younger sister Avantika Dassani is also an actress and made her debut with the web-series Mithya. [7]
The book interweaves her family's experience during World War II and contemporary times, including the story of her family members who died in Auschwitz and how her grandmother Myriam Rabinovitch survived. The novel thus recovers the past while including Berest's experience of researching and discovering her past.
