The AUR Alliance (Romanian: Alianța AUR) is a Romanian right-wing nationalist political alliance, consisting of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) and other smaller parties. The alliance was founded in January 2023, and aims to participate in the 2024 Romanian elections.
The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (Romanian: Alianța pentru Unirea Românilor, AUR, meaning "gold" in Romanian) [28] is a right-wing populist [11] [12] and nationalist [29] [5] [30] political party active in Romania and Moldova. It was founded on 19 September 2019 ahead of the 2020 Romanian local and legislative elections.
On 9 June 2024, PNCR leader Terheș was re-elected as a Member of the European Parliament on the AUR Alliance list. Five members of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians were elected from the alliance list too. On 19 June 2024, all 6 elected AUR Alliance MEPs were accepted into the European Conservatives and Reformists group. [13] [14]
The AUR was formed as an alliance of the Republican Party (PR) and the Romanian National Unity Party (PUNR). [3] It received 2.1% of the Chamber of Deputies vote in the 1990 general elections, winning nine seats. It also received 2.2% of the Senate vote, winning two seats. [4] All seats were taken by the PUNR. [5]
