The Rittenhouse paper mill operated until about the 1850s, by which time the family was leasing its facilities out to other types of manufacturing. Between the years 1890 and 1917, the site was acquired through donations and purchases by the City of Philadelphia's Fairmount Park Commission .

The stream enters the Ohio just downstream from the Forks of the Ohio in Pittsburgh , at a place that was founded as the town of Temperanceville in the 1830s.

The former Overbrook Municipal Building is located at 2410 Saw Mill Run Boulevard in the Overbrook neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The building was designed by architect Louis Stevens in the Colonial Revival style and was built in 1927-28.
