The Third District Court of Appeal (DCA) was one of the first three DCAs created by the Florida legislature in 1957. Court was first held in a room of the University of Miami School of Law. Then, from 1960 to 1976, court sessions took place at the State Office Building.
The Fourth DCA was created in 1965; the Fifth DCA was created in 1979; and Sixth District Courts of Appeal was created in 2023. [ 2 ] The existence of the DCAs was provided for in the Florida Constitution , which now requires the legislature to divide the state into appellate court districts, providing each with a DCA.
Lagoa was appointed to the Third District Court of Appeal by Governor Jeb Bush in June 2006 and became Chief Judge on January 1, 2019.
