The work was a gold medalist during the Exposicion General de las Filipinas [1] (International Philippine Exposition) in Madrid. [3] In 1889, an international jury made the painting a silver medalist during the Paris Exposition , a distinct recognition that no other Filipino painter had achieved at the major art arena in Paris.
Regarded as one of the national treasures of the Philippines, [13] a copy of the painting is part of the art collection of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (Central Bank of the Philippines). [6] The original was destroyed in a fire at the University of Valladolid in Spain. [ 14 ]
