Borden Flats Light is a historic lighthouse on the Taunton River in Fall River, Massachusetts, US. [ 1 ] [ 4 ] [ 5 ] It is a tower-on-caisson type known as a sparkplug lighthouse . The light was built in 1881, and added to the National Register of Historic Places as Borden Flats Light Station on June 15, 1987, reference number 87001528.

The Borden family owned the house in the late 19th century — the well-to-do businessman Andrew Borden, his second wife, Abby, Andrew’s daughters Emma and Lizzie, and live-in maid Bridget Sullivan.
The range marked by these lights formed part of a three-leg channel leading from the ocean. Prior to dredging there were two main routes: a southern route past Boston Light and through the narrows south of Lovells Island, and a northern route entering from Broad Sound past Deer Island and across President Roads.
The papers on the land were passed too late in June to begin any construction, so he decided to take in overnight guests to help pay the mortgage. So many of the 1938 guests asked to return, Stone changed his mind about developing the land and began the Lighthouse Inn, which continues in the Stone family. [1] [6]
The first lighthouse was built in the site in 1849; it was a stone keeper's house with a wood-frame tower above, and was destroyed by fire in 1878. [ 2 ] The present lighthouse and keeper's house were built in 1889; it is the only extant wood-frame light and keeper's house connected by a covered way from that period.
