The mission to transport the Spitfires to Malta was designated Operation Calendar; the squadron embarked the American aircraft carrier USS Wasp at Glasgow and sailed on 14 April. The operation commenced on 20 April, when a total of 47 Spitfires were flown off the carrier for an approximately four-hour flight to Malta.
Raoul Daddo-Langlois (1922 – 10 July 1943) was a British flying ace of the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Second World War.He was credited with destroying at least five aircraft.
Flight Lieutenant Mould was sent to Malta, helping to deliver Hurricane IIa fighters to the island from HMS Ark Royal on 3 April 1941. [5] [6] There, he led a flight of No. 261 Squadron RAF until 12 May. [5] When No. 185 Squadron RAF was formed, he was given command as a squadron leader. [5]
