Christianbook, LLC, formerly known as Christian Book Distributors (CBD), is a Christian catalog and internet retailer. Christian Book Distributors was started in 1978 by Stephen Hendrickson, 19 years old and a sophomore at Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, out of his parents’ home in Lynn, Massachusetts .
The association was first organized by 219 Christian bookstores and, by 2011, had grown to include 1700 stores. [3] The number of member stores expanded considerably in the 1990s with the rise of online shopping. [4] Bill Anderson is president of the association [5] and Curtis Riskey is executive director. [6]
ThriftBooks was founded in the summer of 2003 by Daryl Butcher and Jason Meyer. The two created software that organizes and lists thousands of book titles per day. [6] Since 2004, it has partnered with libraries, which provide unsorted books and get a share of the profits.
BookMooch is an international online book exchange community founded by John Buckman in 2006. [1] By 2008, membership reached around 74,000 users in over 90 countries [ 2 ] and about 2,000 books are swapped per day.
