Salt Lick Creek [1] is an 11.1-mile-long (17.9 km) [2] tributary of the Susquehanna River in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania in the United States. [3]Salt Lick Creek rises at the outlet of Page Lake at the village of Lakeside in New Milford Township and flows northwest to the borough of New Milford, then turns north and joins the Susquehanna at the borough of Hallstead.
From 1912 to 1915, the Summit-Hallstead Cutoff (a.k.a. Pennsylvania Cutoff or Nicholson Cutoff) was built to revamp a winding and hilly system between Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, and Hallstead, Pennsylvania. This rerouting provided another quicker low-grade line between Scranton and Binghamton.
The Nicholson Cutoff (also known as Clark's Summit–Hallstead Cutoff) is a rail line segment of the Sunbury Line rail line and formerly a rail line segment of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad main line and the Delaware and Hudson Railway South Line.

Soon after the DL&W Railroad completed the Pennsylvania Cutoff in 1915 to streamline its operations, it abandoned its old route between Clarks Summit and Hallstead. It then gave the roadbed to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the express purpose of building a new highway.
