Margaret Plantagenet, Countess of Salisbury (14 August 1473 – 27 May 1541), was the only surviving daughter of George Plantagenet, Duke of Clarence (a brother of Kings Edward IV and Richard III) and his wife Isabel Neville. [2] [3] As a result of Margaret's marriage to Richard Pole, she was also known as Margaret Pole.
Sir Richard Pole may have been chosen by King Henry VII as husband for his wife's cousin Margaret on the basis that he was "safe" because his mother was a half-sister of Henry's own mother, Margaret Beaufort, Countess of Richmond—that is, one of the St Johns—and her mother in turn was a Beauchamp. He died in October 1504. [9]
Pole was born at Stourton Castle, Staffordshire, on 12 March 1500, [1] the third son of Sir Richard Pole and Margaret Pole, 8th Countess of Salisbury. He was named after the now beatified Reginald of Orleans, O.P.
Lady Ursula was born in about 1504, the only daughter of Sir Richard Pole and Margaret Pole, suo jure 8th Countess of Salisbury, who, as the daughter of George Plantagenet, 1st Duke of Clarence and Isabella Neville, was the last surviving member of the Plantagenet dynasty.
