Alphonsus Maria de Liguori CSsR (27 September 1696 – 1 August 1787) was an Italian Catholic bishop and saint, as well as a spiritual writer, composer, musician, artist, poet, lawyer, scholastic philosopher, and theologian.
The book was written in part as a defense of Marian devotion at a time when it had come under criticism. The book combines numerous citations in favor of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary from the Church Fathers and the Doctors of the Church with Saint Alphonsus' own personal views on Marian veneration and includes a number of Marian prayers and practices.
He also recorded a slightly updated arrangement of this song on his 1965 RCA Victor Billboard Top 40 album The Heart of Christmas (Cuor' Di Natale). [ 8 ] Contemporary Italian composer Piero Niro has produced a composition entitled Three Variations on "Tu scendi dalle stelle" for a large orchestra (2000).
This church houses the relics of St Alphonsus Maria de' Liguori, gave up his status as a nobleman to follow his vocation to become a priest. He is depicted at the feet of the Virgin, to whom he was devoted, laying down his sword, and vowing to dedicate to the priesthood.

After the eighth edition in 1779, Alphonsus considered his work definitive, and in 1785 the ninth edition finalized the book's contents. [2] Since his death, many further editions have been published, including a partially completed English edition from Mediatrix Press, the first volume of which was released in 2017.
The Church of St Alphonse Liguori (Maltese: Il-Knisja ta' San Alfons Liguori) is a Roman Catholic church in Birkirkara, Malta. It was operated by the Discalced Carmelites, and was dedicated to Saint Alphonsus Maria de' Liguori. The church is currently used as a meeting hall known as Our Lady of Mount Carmel Hall (Maltese: Sala Madonna tal-Karmnu).
