"Tunnel of Love" is a song by the British rock band Dire Straits. It appears on the 1980 album Making Movies, and subsequently on the live albums Alchemy and Live at the BBC and the greatest hits albums Money for Nothing, Sultans of Swing: The Very Best of Dire Straits, and The Best of Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler: Private Investigations.
Live at the BBC consists of eight songs, the first seven recorded for the BBC Live in Concert series on 22 July 1978. The eighth song, "Tunnel of Love", was recorded at the Rockpop concert in Dortmund the 19th of December 1980. The album features one unreleased song, "What's the Matter Baby?", co-written by Mark Knopfler and his brother David.
Although "Tunnel of Love" reached only no. 54 in the UK when released as a single in 1981, it remains one of Dire Straits' most famous and popular songs and immediately became a favourite live staple, entering the band’s concert repertoire from this point onwards. Making Movies stayed in the UK Albums Chart for five years, peaking at No. 4. [38]
An eight month long Love over Gold Tour followed which finished with two sold-out concerts at London's Hammersmith Odeon on 22 and 23 July 1983. In March 1984 the double album Alchemy Live was released, which documented the recordings of these final two live shows.

"Telegraph Road" became a staple of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler solo tours. A slightly shorter live version of the song is included in the 1984 live album Alchemy: Dire Straits Live, [3] and a remixed edit of that performance is included in their 1988 greatest hits album Money for Nothing. [4]
