In 1947, Teichert won first prize in the LDS Church's centennial art contest and was the first woman to paint a mural for an LDS temple. [2] In the mid-1940s, having achieved success painting murals, Teichert began painting a series of murals related to stories from the Book of Mormon.
The temple has four progressive-style ordinance rooms and eight sealing rooms, the final ordinance room being in the French Baroque style. [12] The total floor area is 100,373 sq ft (9,325 m 2). The ordinance rooms feature painted murals. the Creation Room mural is the oldest mural in any LDS temple.
A number of art pieces are then exhibited at the Church History Museum. The most recent was the Ninth International Art Competition, running from March 16, 2012 – October 14, 2012.
