The post office, store, and gas station in Remote, Oregon. Remote is an unincorporated hamlet in Coos County in the U.S. state of Oregon. It lies near the confluence of Sandy Creek with the Middle Fork Coquille River. Remote was named by local pioneers for its distance from other settlements. The settlement created by these miners was at first known as Sandy Creek and was renamed Tarnagulla, after the station in 1860. [2] Reflecting this, the Post Office opened on 13 August 1856 as Sandy Creek and was renamed Tarnagulla on 2 January 1861. [4] Tarnagulla is phonetic meaning of Polish Czarnogóra [5] (eng. Black Mountain - Montenegro).
A Post Office first opened on 1 March 1861 and closed in 1865. A Post Office again opened on 1 December 1885, although known as Walwa Creek from 1886 until 1905. Currently, the Walwa Post Office is owned and operated by Belinda Mann, and services the areas of Walwa, Burrowye, Guys Forrest and Sandy Creek.
