The West London Free School is an English free school for girls and boys aged 11 to 18. It was co-founded by Toby Young and opened in 2011. [1] [2]It is located in Hammersmith in west London and was the first free school of its type in England to sign a Funding Agreement with the Secretary of State for Education.
Sixth form itself isn't compulsory in England and Wales (although from 2013 onwards, people of sixth form age must remain in some form of education or training in England only; the school leaving age remains 16 in Wales); however, university entrance normally requires at least three A level qualifications and perhaps one AS level.
Pupils must sit an entrance exam to enter, and fulfil several other entry criteria. It is part of the worldwide Loreto community, and the Altrincham school was founded by the Sisters of Loreto in 1909. It has also assumed the status of an academy (30 August 2012) and is a specialist school for maths and science. [1]
The sixth form offers subjects that were not available to take at GCSE level, such as Film Studies, Government & Politics, Sociology, and Psychology. Students can also retake GCSEs during their sixth form course. The sixth form has minimum entry requirements of grade 6s at GCSE level for subjects that students want to further study at A-Level.
Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School is based across three main sites. The Chatham House site is where Year 7, 8 and 9 students are based, whereas Year 10 and 11 are based at the Clarendon House site. The Sixth Form Centre is where the Sixth Form students are based, but regularly have lessons across all three sites.
In 2015, the Sunday Times awarded the school with the title of 'The Sunday Times Sixth-form College of The Year'. It was the first free school to be named the best sixth form in the country". [6] In 2016 eight students gained offers from Oxford University and the University of Cambridge, receiving much national media attention. [7]

Year 12, or Lower Sixth form, is comparable to the 11th grade in the US. It is the sixth and penultimate year of secondary education. During Year 12, students usually take the first half of three or four A-Level or equivalent subjects. Some students take Advanced Subsidiary Level (AS-Level) exams at the end of Year 12.
