The River, also known as The Return and Hatchet: The Return, is a 1991 young adult novel by Gary Paulsen.It is the second installment in the Hatchet series, although Brian's Winter (1996) kicks off an alternative trilogy of sequels to Hatchet that disregard The River from canon.
Gary James Paulsen (May 17, 1939 – October 13, 2021) was an American writer of children's and young adult fiction, best known for coming-of-age stories about the wilderness. He was the author of more than 200 books and wrote more than 200 magazine articles and short stories, and several plays, all primarily for teenagers.
Hatchet is a 1987 young-adult wilderness survival novel written by American writer Gary Paulsen. [1] It is the first novel of five in the Hatchet series. Other novels in the series include The River (1991), Brian's Winter (1996), Brian's Return (1999) and Brian's Hunt (2003). [2]
Paulsen originally got the idea for the character of Francis Tucket through an urge to cover the West with a single person. [1] Tucket's Gold was first published in 1999 by Delacorte Books. It was the fourth novel in the Tucket Adventures saga and was followed by the fifth and final novel in the series, Tucket's Home.
