Julia Gnuse (guh-NOO-see) (January 18, 1955 - August 11, 2016), commonly known by the nickname The Illustrated Lady or The Irvine Walker, was an American woman who had 95% of her body (including her face) covered in tattoos [1] and held the Guinness Record for being the most tattooed woman in the world. [2]
According to Guinness over a ten-year period, Varley had over 200 designs inked, covering roughly 93% of her body in tattoos. She reported that "the only areas not completely tattooed is my face, the soles of my feet my ears and some area on my hands." [5] [6] Varley has also estimated to have spent over 500 hours decorating her body. [7]

Her dedication brought her to the attention of Governor Barbara Roberts, who appointed Haake to Oregon's Advisory Council for Electrology, Permanent Color Technicians and Tattoo Artists [34] from 1991 to 1996. In 2009, when the Portland Art Museum (PAM) decided to showcase the art of tattoo, Mary Jane Haake was approached for help.
