The NHRA Summernationals, hosted by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), was an annual drag racing event held from 1970 to 1992, 2002 to 2017 and again in 2020, mostly at the Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in New Jersey.
The 1978 NHRA Summernationals (commonly known as the Summernats) were a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) drag racing event, held at Englishtown, New Jersey, on 16 July. [ 1 ]
The event's date would remain on the NHRA national event schedule until 1992. In 1993, the event was renamed the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals and moved to May to take advantage of the cooler weather in NJ during that time of the year. In 2000, the event was again renamed Matco Tools Spring Supernationals and was moved to the month of June.

With over 40,000 drivers in its rosters, the NHRA claims to be the largest motorsport sanctioning body in the world. [1] The association was founded by Wally Parks in 1951 in California to provide a governing body to organize and promote the sport of drag racing. NHRA's first Nationals was held in 1955, in Great Bend, Kansas.
