Ratchathewi (Thai: ราชเทวี, pronounced [râːt.t͡ɕʰā.tʰēː.wīː]) is a district in central Bangkok, Thailand. Clockwise from the north, its neighboring districts are Phaya Thai , Din Daeng , Huai Khwang , Watthana , Pathum Wan and Dusit .
Bangkok is subdivided into 50 districts (khet, เขต, pronounced, also sometimes wrongly called amphoe as in the other provinces, derived from Pali khetta, cognate to Sanskrit kṣetra), which are further subdivided into 180 subdistricts (khwaeng, แขวง, pronounced [kʰwɛ̌ːŋ]), roughly equivalent to tambon in the other provinces.
The area is bordered by neighbouring subdistricts (from north clockwise): Phaya Thai and, Sam Sen Nai in Phaya Thai District (Khlong Sam Sen is a borderline), Makkasan, and Thanon Phetchaburi in its district (Phaya Thai Road and Si Ayutthaya Road are the borderlines), Suan Chitlada in Dusit District (Northern Railway Line is a borderline).
A new Ratchathewi district was created by carving off the southern part of Phaya Thai in 1989. [5] In 1993, some eastern parts were moved out of the district to the newly-formed Din Daeng, [6] leaving Phaya Thai with only one remaining sub-district, Sam Sen Nai.
