Lake Carlos State Park is a state park about 10 miles north of Alexandria, Minnesota, USA.The park was established in 1937 to provide a public recreational facility in one of Minnesota's summer resort centers, [2] and attracts tourists from Minnesota and bordering states.
Camping: 2 group camps along the river provide tent camping opportunities for 35-50 people each. Drive-in camping is available for both tents and RVs. There are two main camping areas, one near the river and one on top of the bluffs. Several sites on top of the bluff are accessible via a short (max. 100 yards) walk from a parking area.
Lake Andrew is a quiet, spring-fed lake located just south of Alexandria. With a size of 918 acres (3.72 km 2), it is popular for recreational activities and a good lake for anglers. The most recent Lake Survey reports mean and maximum depths are 29.0 feet (8.8 m) and 83.0 feet (25.3 m), respectively. Water clarity is considered good.
Minnesota's first attempt to create a state park came in 1885, when a 173-acre (70 ha) park was authorized to preserve Minnehaha Falls.The effort was delayed by legal appeals from the various landowners of the desired parkland, and by the time those were settled in favor of the state in 1889, Minnesota no longer had the money to purchase the land.
