He was born on 6 May 1950 in Budawatta Gavilipitiya village in Aranayake, Mawanella, [7] Sri Lanka as the seventh heir of Buddhawatta Dancing family of Satharakoralaya. [8] His mother was P. N. Alpi Nona and father was Punchi Guru Budawatta. [9] His father was one of the first three dance teachers in Sri Lanka where he taught in 14 schools.
Upeka Chitrasena is a Sri Lankan dancer and dance teacher. [1] She is one of the dancing duo Varija and Chitrasena who pioneered the introduction of Sri Lankan ballet in the 1950s. Manori Wijesekera in 2011 called her "Sri Lanka’s finest female dancer", and described her relationship with the drums as unique. [ 1 ]
She gained her training sessions in Kathak dance from Kathak teacher, Arjun Mishra. [1] She obtained her Master of Arts degree at the University of Visual and Performing Arts in 2012. [ 1 ] She has also conducted Kathak dance lectures to students in Sri Lanka. [ 5 ]
He was also permitted to work as a dance teacher while studying at the school. [7] Later, he entered the Vidyalankara Pirivena to learn the Sanskrit language and literature from Rambukwella Sri Siddhartha Thero. [5] In 1938, at the age of 18, he was appointed as the dance teacher at Nalanda College, Colombo. [8] [17]

The school library was set up in 1982 with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Library Services Board. In 1996, a program titled "Library Week" was inaugurated during the "Reading Month". Library facilities are provided to all the pupils of the school and there are two libraries separately; one for Primary Grades and other for seniors.
