Marinette Dupain-Cheng (voiced by Cristina Vee in the English dub, [1] [2] [3] and by Anouck Hautbois in the French version with singing voice in the film by Lou in both versions) is the female protagonist of the series and a French-Chinese 13/14-year-old student at Françoise Dupont High School (Collège Françoise Dupont).
As Ladybug, Marinette's signature ability is creation (through her Lucky Charm superpower). Marinette appears in most Miraculous media, including the main series, the film, the Roblox game, the mobile running game, and the comic books. Marinette's character was inspired by a young woman wearing a ladybug-themed T-shirt who once worked with Astruc.
The series takes place in modern-day Paris and revolves around the adventures of two teenagers, [17] [18] Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste. [19] When evil arises, they transform into their superhero personas, Ladybug and Cat Noir respectively, using magical jewels known as the "Miraculouses".
Marinette's teacher, Ms. Caline Bustier, is having her birthday, and all her students have gifts for her, except for Chloé. After being called out for it, Chloé messes up Marinette's gift. Marinette almost becomes a target for Hawk Moth, but Ms. Bustier intercepts the akuma and becomes "Zombizou", whose kiss turns anyone into kissing zombies.
