Tinker Air Force Base is named in honor of Major General Clarence L. Tinker. [2] An Osage from Pawhuska, Oklahoma, he received his wings in 1921. [3] He was a graduate of Wentworth Military Academy who went on to become the first major general of Native American descent in U.S. Army history.

The center was renamed Pompano Square and renovated in 1985 to better compete with newer shopping centers in the area, including Coral Square. [1] Jordan Marsh became Mervyn's in 1992 which gave the mall the same offering as the then-new Pembroke Lakes Mall. Mervyn's in turn closed in 1997 and the building was purchased by Dillard's.
