This is a list of airports in Indiana (a U.S. state), grouped by type and sorted by location.It contains all public-use and military airports in the state. Some private-use and former airports may be included where notable, such as airports that were previously public-use, those with commercial enplanements recorded by the FAA, or airports assigned an IATA airport code.
Since 1962, the airport has been owned and operated by the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA). The IAA has an eight-member board with members appointed by the mayor of Indianapolis and other officials from Marion, Hendricks, and Hamilton counties in central Indiana. In 1976, the board renamed the airport Indianapolis International Airport. [9]
It is 8 miles (13 km) northeast of downtown Indianapolis, is owned by the Indianapolis Airport Authority and is a reliever airport for Indianapolis International Airport. [1] Most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, but Indianapolis Metropolitan Airport is "UMP" to the FAA and has no IATA code. [2]
