At this time Isuzu began to sell the D-Max under the Isuzu name. Isuzu's entry in the Thai market proved to be one of its most successful. Its presence in the country began in 1966 when it established a manufacturing facility for pick-up trucks in the Samuthprakarn province with a capacity of 155,000 units per year. [ 36 ]
The predecessor to the MU-X, the Isuzu MU-7 is a D-Max-based SUV with a three-row seating arrangement. The MU-7 was released in Thailand in November 2004, being advertised as a "Sport Utility Wagon". [4] The MU-7 has the same front fascia and chassis as the D-Max but has a covered rear end instead of a truck bed.
DMAX originally was announced in 1997 [1] as a 60-40 joint venture [2] between and operated by General Motors and Isuzu.Diesel engine production started in July 2000. [3] The company's Duramax V8 engine has been extremely successful for GM, raising that company's diesel pickup market share to 30% in 2002, up from approximately 5% in 1999.
The DMAX V6 engine is a 3.0 L; 180.5 cu in (2,958 cc) diesel engine. It was designed, and is produced by Isuzu in Fujisawa, Kanagawa, Japan but the design rights to the engine are now owned by General Motors. It uses high-pressure common rail direct injection with four valve per cylinder, cylinder heads.

The Isuzu Traga is a small cab over pickup truck manufactured by Isuzu since 2018. It is developed to compete with the Mitsubishi L300 in the Indonesian medium pickup truck market. [ 3 ] It replaces the L300-based Bison and Panther pickup in the market.
