Around 1000 BCE the town was abandoned and then slowly resettled until around 650 BCE it emerged as a bustling city. According to Jewish tradition, Halhul was the burial place of Gad the Seer. [8] Halhul was destroyed, together with Jerusalem and the First Temple, by Nebuchadnezzar II during his invasion of the Kingdom of Judah in 587 BCE.

Mohammed Hassan Milhim (Arabic: محمد حسن ملحم; 4 September 1929 – 17 July 2021) [1] was a Palestinian politician, who served as mayor of Halhul. He graduated from the Lebanese University with a certificate in English literature in 1974. [2] He was elected mayor of Halhul in 1976.
