This album spawned the Newsboys' first movie, Down Under the Big Top (1996), which was based on the song "Reality". In late 1997 just after completing the Take Me To Your Leader Tour, lead singer John James announced he would be leaving the band to start a preaching ministry.
Unlike the band's previous albums, Adoration is a solely worship-oriented album (as the subtitle implies), deviating from the Newsboys' standard pop rock sound. This was the last Newsboys' album with the long-time guitarist Jody Davis due to his daughter’s sickness, until his reunion with the group in 2009 for In the Hands of God.
In 2017, Furler collaborated with the Newsboys again for "The Cross Has the Final Word" single, which was his first involvement in the band since leaving in 2009. In 2018, he and Phil Joel began touring with Newsboys as Newsboys United. They released the album United in 2019. [10] Furler once again departed the group in 2022.
