Rival Schools is an American post-hardcore band from New York City, New York. For most of their tenure, the band has featured Walter Schreifels on vocals and guitar , Ian Love on guitar, Cache Tolman on bass guitar , and Sam Siegler on drums .
Rival Schools was born out of an informal jam session with drummer Sam Siegler (formerly of Gorilla Biscuits and Youth of Today) and bassist Cache Tolman (formerly of Iceburn and CIV). [4] They spent several months working on material and recording demos, before adding guitarist Ian Love (formerly of Burn and Die 116). [4]
Rival Schools reformed in April 2008, [10] which Schreifels credited to the Gorilla Biscuits reunion: "I longed for the togetherness that defines Rival Schools." [11] They appeared at a variety of festivals [7] and went on a UK tour. [12] During a performance at Download Festival, they debuted four new songs. [13]

After Rival Schools' dissolution, he went on to form Walter and the Motorcycles, who recorded but never released a self-titled LP and played a few shows but quickly broke up.
