The Fisher Homestead, located on U.S. Route 60 in Cloverport, Kentucky, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The listing included three contributing buildings. [1] The homestead house is Federal in style and was built in c.1801. It is one-and-a-half-stories tall and has a one-story brick ell.
The settlement contains twelve homestead log cabins, a one-room school house, and a blacksmith shop. A restored spring house on the property was used by the settlement as food storage. The settlement began in 1903 when brothers-in-law Sherman Hensley and Willy Gibbons settled their families on plots from acreage purchased by Barton Hensely Sr.
It was originally located north of Highway 438 about 8 miles from Springfield, Kentucky in Litsey. It was the best example of a log single cell dwelling in the county. [ 5 ] The Beechland neighborhood was sometimes called Poortown, which actually was home to successful landowners and the small cabins of people who worked for them.
