Traveller is an Origins Award winning science fiction role-playing game published by Game Designers' Workshop (GDW) in 1977. It is a time when interstellar travel has become possible and Humaniti has met other starfaring races.

In the October–November 1981 edition of White Dwarf, Andy Slack reviewed the Deluxe Traveller Edition, a compilation of the three original rules booklets, plus Book 0 - An Introduction to Traveller, and an adventure, "The Imperial Fringe". Slack thought this edition was better laid out, and "typos have been rectified."
Traveller Starter Edition is a boxed Tabletop role-playing game, written by Marc W. Miller, and published by Game Designers' Workshop in 1983 for Traveller. Traveller Starter Edition revised both the style and the packaging for the Traveller system.
Brennan O'Brien reviewed Traveller: The New Era in White Wolf #37 (July/Aug., 1993), rating it a 4 out of 5 and stated that "Traveller: The New Era is outstanding. GURPS Traveller is a set of table-top role-playing game books by Steve Jackson Games, designed to allow game play in the Third Imperium science-fiction setting from the original Traveller using the GURPS rule system. Loren Wiseman (formerly of Game Designers' Workshop) wrote the core book for GURPS Traveller and served as line editor.
