The Tripping and Outback unit focuses on outdoor living, backpacking, and occasionally leaves camp for one-day or multi-day trips. The first camp was named Camp Manitou and opened in 1936 in Central Valley, New York. It offered a two-week vacation for over 100 girls of the age 8 to 13. The name of the organization changed to Girls Quest in July 2005 to better reflect the approach to the development of young women and girls.
