It is organised by the Singapore Tourism Board. [1] Composed of weekly core events, themed celebrations, culinary workshops, and competitions organised island-wide, this month-long festival celebrates the local perennial food favourites that have given Singapore an international reputation of a diverse food heaven.
Tourism was in its early stages of development in Singapore during the 1960s, with the official formation of the Singapore Tourism Promotion Board (STPB, later renamed Singapore Tourism Board) in 1964. [4] During this period, coastal tourism in Singapore was minimal, and it was not considered a distinct category of tourism in Singapore.
In 2007, the festival was renamed Singapore Fireworks Celebrations and had a new organiser Festival Square Circle. The event cost over S$1 million, and featured 130 varieties of fireworks over two days. The event was supported by the Singapore Tourism Board. [1]
