In the episode, Lila Tournay (Jaime Murray) finds Sgt. James Doakes imprisoned in an Everglades cabin and learns from him that her object of affection, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), is the serial killer known as the "Bay Harbor Butcher". She decides to help Dexter and kills Doakes by setting the cabin on fire.
Lila finds Doakes imprisoned in the cabin, and realizes that Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher. She ignores his pleas for help, and kills Doakes by setting the cabin on fire. Doakes is found dead, and because the evidence of the Bay Harbor Butcher killings indicates him as the criminal, the case is closed.
Debra finds that Lila's real name is Lila West, and her visa expired two years ago. Debra visits her and warns her to leave. That night, Dexter has dinner with Debra, planning to tell her his secret, but he cannot bring himself to do it. Their dinner is interrupted when Doakes' car is found, and Dexter worries they will find him caged at the cabin.
Doakes decides to investigate the Shipping Yard case, but Camilla (Margo Martindale) refuses to give him the files. To ruin his reputation, Dexter sabotages Doakes by making him intimidate an innocent suspect. Upon discovering he was set up, Doakes confronts Dexter. Dexter mocks him and head-butts him.
