Sante Kimes and her son Kenneth were a rarity in the annals of crime: a mother-and-son pair of con artists who left a trail of scams and violence across the country, including arson, fraud and murder.
Only three months before Kimes escaped from prison, the brothers went on a brief crime spree of their own before meeting up with Kimes. On August 20, they stole $5,000 from a bank in Beggs and led a gang which simultaneously raided two banks in Covington six days later. [1] [2] The Kimes brothers were confronted by police in Sallisaw on August 27.
The 2001 made-for-TV movie, Like Mother, Like Son: The Strange Story of Sante and Kenny Kimes, starred Mary Tyler Moore as Sante, Gabriel Olds as Kenneth Jr. and Jean Stapleton as Silverman.
