Chakraborty (spelling variations include Chakraborti, Chakrabarti, Chakrabarty and Chakravarty) is a surname of Bengali Hindus and Assamese Hindus of India and Bangladesh, which literally means 'wheels rolling'; metaphorically it denotes a ruler whose chariot wheels roll everywhere without obstruction (čakra 'wheel' + vart-'to roll').
