DeKalb County is a county in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 71,608. [1] Its county seat is Fort Payne, [2] and it is named after Major General Baron Johann de Kalb. DeKalb County is part of the Huntsville-Decatur-Albertville, AL Combined Statistical Area.
Houston County was the last county created in the state, on February 9, 1903. [3] According to 2023 U.S. Census data, the average population of Alabama's 67 counties is 76,246, with Jefferson County as the most populous (662,895), and Greene County (7,341) the least. [7] The average land area is 756 sq mi (1,958 km 2).
Lakeview is located in western DeKalb County at (34.392298, -85.973244), [3] along Alabama State Route 75, which leads northeast 10 miles (16 km) to Rainsville and southwest 2.5 miles (4.0 km) to Geraldine
Collinsville is located in southern DeKalb County at 34°15'55.555" North, 85°51'41.483" West (34.265432, -85.861523). [5] A small portion extends southeast along Alabama State Route 68 into Cherokee County. The town is located in the Little Wills Valley, between Lookout Mountain to the east and the smaller Big Ridge to the west.

Many stayed at the Alabama White Sulphur Springs Hotel, an 80-room hotel and six associated cottages, built by Col. A. B. Hanna in 1871. The hotel was long a popular resort destination, operating until 1929. Competition and the proliferation of private automobiles cut down on tourist traffic.
